Franklin Gunshop has moved into a new 28,700 square foot building on the Atlanta Highway in Athens. With vastly expanded product lines, Franklin Gunshop now provides customer with the greatest possible choices in hunting and fishing equipment and accessories. The store was founded in 1962 by Clarence and Barbara Franklin as a part-time venture while Clarence was an Athens City Police officer. Their first location was in the basement of their home near the Commerce Highway and Athens bypass. The company specialized in gun service an refinishing, and eventually expanded into retailing of guns and accessories.

In the spring of 1973, Franklin Gunshop moved into a new home and a new basement on Hawthorne Avenue. The business grew. A gun showroom was built. Eventually fishing equipment was added and the store became a full service hunting and fishing store. In 1981, another wing was built and clothing and archery were added.

By the mid 1980s, it became necessary to look for new quarters; so the Franklin's bought land on the Atlanta Highway and in December 1990 opened the new store.

Franklin Gunshop's new location, 3941 Atlanta Highway, is one block west and across the street from Georgia Square Mall. It is in the heart of the "new business district" and has plenty of parking and easy access from the highway.

The 18,100 square foot showroom is one of the largest in the Southeast that is dedicated entirely to hunting and fishing. Franklin Gunshop carries any item the hunter or fisherman needs.

Franklin Gunshop now has complete coverage of all of its product lines, carrying all major brands. Franklin Gunshop is still owned and managed by the Franklin family and our staff is like family, so let one of us assist you today.

Game calls now have their own department which covers all aspects of calling wild game.

There are more than 550 long guns and over 800 handguns on display. Brand names like Browning, Remington, Ruger, Winchester, Wetherby, SKB, Beretta, Smith & Wesson, Sig-Sauer, Sako, Kimber, Marlin and many others are in stock. Gun sales are not limited to new guns however. Franklin Gunshop also buys, sells, and trades used firearms. Bullets, shotgun shells, black powder, air guns, and rifle scopes, as well as a full line of reloading equipment completes the gun department.

All of the 5,000 square foot second floor showroom is devoted to clothing. Browning, Remington, Carhartt, 10-X, Walls, and Filson lines have all been added including Barbour and Filson. A large area has been devoted to boots, gloves, socks and all the small items a hunter needs.

The greatly enlarged fishing department has over 1000 rods on display. There are also reels of all types and descriptions. Franklin Gunshop carries equipment for the expert or the beginning angler. Marine accessories including the latest technology in fish detection equipment are now also available.
